Scott Pilgrim vs The World

Incase anyone didn't know by the various tweets/times I've talked about this movie/bed wetting I've been super excited about seeing Edgar Wright's movie version of Scott Pilgrim vs The World.

It must have been February when I started paying attention to the film - I love everything Edgar Wright has ever done and so in preparation for the movie I started buying the Scott Pilgrim comics. After having seen Watchmen without having read the graphic novels beforehand I figured that doing the opposite would give me a much greater insight into the characters and story.

Both approaches are a double edged sword as in Watchmen (which I enjoyed) I picked up on a lot more the second time I watched it after having read the comic and with Scott Pilgrim as much as I loved the movie there was a lot of awesome stuff that was left out from the books. Entirely understandable of course, there are six books being crammed into a two hour film.

Despite this, the film is easily the most enjoyable thing I've seen this year.

Wright has done a brilliant job of getting all seven exes into the film and fleshing them out just enough for the audience to understand their motivations and backstory. If you hadn't read the comics you'd still come away satisfied, which is the real achievement - getting the core themes of the books across to the viewer.

Finally, one last reason to see this film. It looks absolutely nothing like anything else ever made.

There were points during the movie where I just sat there open mouthed trying to remember if I'd ever seen anything like this in anything else. Go and see it for this reason alone - you could have seen a thousand films and none of them will look like Scott Pilgrim vs The World.

Also, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Ramona is SUPER hot.
